The Back Room is an intimate live music venue located in the heart of Berkeley, California, founded by acclaimed pianist, composer, and educator Sam Rudin. Inspired by the warm, community-focused atmosphere of Berkeley's original Freight and Salvage, Sam created a welcoming performance space where audiences can enjoy exceptional acoustic music in a relaxed and personal setting.Opened in April 2016, The Back Room features beautiful brick walls, vaulted wood ceilings, and cozy thrift-store furnishings that create a unique concert experience. The venue showcases talented local, national, and international musicians across a variety of genres, including jazz, folk, blues, classical, and singer-songwriter performances. In addition to hosting live music, The Back Room also serves as Sam Rudin's piano teaching studio, continuing his lifelong passion for music education and community engagement.
