Simon started off his career in photography as a photographic assistant with advertising and design agency D.B.N in Birmingham England. At the time it was the midlands largest commercial photographic studio with seven photographers working round the clock, shooting a wide range of work from Bands to Bentleys. This was a unique situation which allowed new ideas and techniques to flourish and became the ideal platform learning from the other photographers he was assisting. After a couple of years training and the work in hand, he began to shoot model/fashion based tests focusing on securing clients based in the fashion & editorial capital, London. He further developed his lighting and printing techniques working alongside great black and white technicians in the darkroom including fashion photographer Terence Donovan. At the time he became the youngest affiliate member of the British Institute Of Professional Photographers and in the process, changed their attitudes and policies on age and photographer licentiateship. Working as a speaker on the Kodak pro road show Simon demonstrated his different style of printing and lighting to budding photographers across the U.K. He also joined the association of fashion and editorial photographers (afaep) in London where his work was first featured in their “introducing” exhibition, this in turn secured his first fashion clients in Paris and Berlin. Since those early days Simons work has been published world-wide. Highlights including projects with Ophrey Winfrey shooting “O” magazine and creating a live photo blog for the Rally To Read Education Project South Africa.
